Value Discipline: Part 2
What type of company are you to your customer and what type of company are you in the marketplace are two questions that can be answered by defining your company’s value discipline. A company’s value discipline can be generalized into three categories; operational excellence, product leadership, and customer intimacy.
Operational excellence is consistently providing products or services in an efficient manner that is also convenient to the customer. An example of operational excellence is Amazon, you log in, pick out a product, pay for it and it is on your door step shortly after, you can even pay with one click if you already have your information stored from a previous purchase. Value Discipline: Part 1
One of the most important foundations to establish for your company is the type of value the company brings to the customer. Once your company establishes the type of value it offers, your marketing and sales personnel can then articulate it to the customer in terms of the company’s strategies; whether it is the company’s marketing or sales strategy, the company’s product or service offering, or the company’s overall brand. Defining your company’s value discipline is different from the company’s value proposition. A company’s value discipline defines who you will be to the customer and the company’s value proposition defines what type of company you will be to your customer (from their point of view).
Customer intimacy is offering services or products that are customized to match the exact demands of a target market; an example of such a company is Ritz Carlton. A company with this value discipline intimately knows the customer’s needs and in most cases fulfills a niche. The result is strong customer loyalty. Product leadership is offering the superior products or services to the competition. An example of product leadership is Apple; the company offers superior devices in the marketplace.
With a value discipline, it is possible for a company to have a combination of the three just as it is possible to be multiple “things” to one person, for example you can be a parent and peer to your child if you both were taking a foreign-language class together for a future trip. However, there is always a primary value discipline that defines your company; Apple has provided superior products, fulfilled a niche for customers (customer intimacy) with its products and has company superior operations, but it is ultimately its superior products that define Apple, which is its primary value discipline. This is the same as in the instance where the parent is taking a class with their children, while in class the parent might be a peer because they are both students learning the same content; ultimately the primary relationship that defines their interaction is the parental relationship.
Ultimately, defining your value discipline will help provide the frame-work and direction for your company strategies in other areas.

Defining your value discipline is like you defining who you are to someone else, for example are you that person’s peer, cousin, spouse, friend, or parent. Then the value proposition takes who you are to the other person and answers the question; what type of person you are to your other person (from their point of view)? So if you defined that you are someone’s friend (value discipline), what type of friend do you want them to see you as (value proposition)
Value discipline is putting content into context; it helps the company further define their customer experience that they want to present when the marketing, sales and product and service strategy is created. Often times, company’s only define what they to the customer without defining who they are to the customer and who they are in the marketplace.
A company’s value proposition are attributes that describe the benefits the customer will get from a company’s product or services in other words what type of company are you to your customer (from their point of view). A company’s value discipline defines what the company does or who are you to the customer and who are you in the marketplace.

Our sales plans also help clients create effective customer relationship management strategies, the client’s sales process, sales pitch and strategies for customer retention. Sales forecast can also be used as a tool to track planned versus actual performance to benchmark expectations and ensure that sales goals are met or even exceeded.
Our sales plans also include a forecast of future sales and expenses, so our clients can make informed business decisions. Marketing Plan
We help our clients strengthen their marketing strategy with a marketing plan that help our clients clearly define their ideal customer, service experience, and core message. The goal of our marketing plan is to develop a marketing strategy that effectively allows the client to communicate to their customer in a way that is not only different that it’s competitors, but also in a way that is intimate to the customer’s client.
Our marketing plan helps our clients define their marketing vision and create their marketing strategy around that vision. Our marketing plan helps our clients define their ideal customer and includes a strategy to generate leads and convert the leads from prospects to customers and define your company’s marketing materials.
Our marketing plan also helps our client let the web work for them by creating a web plan strategy, defining the elements within your web page and social media strategy. The use of social media allows our clients to reach and connect to their ideal customers. The plan also designs marketing milestones that assist our clients in creating the steps necessary to implement the marketing strategy as well as developing marketing metrics that measure the effectiveness of our client’s marketing strategy.
